Blue Shield is a 3-story office building located at the southwest corner of Bonnyview Road and Bechelli Lane overlooking the Sacramento River.   The building was sited to take advantage of the view of the river as well as to avoid oak trees and stands of Manzanita bushes which were preserved in the landscaping. 

Sharrah Dunlap Sawyer worked closely with the project architect (Williams + Paddon) to process the project through the City of Redding Planning Department for a Use Permit.  Issues of concern included an archaeological site on the property which was avoided and a significant drainage along the north property line.  On-site storm water detention was accomplished with a combination of undulations in the landscape areas and underground piping. 

We prepared the on-site construction documents for grading, paving, the drainage system including detention, wet utilities and cooperated with the private utility companies.  Together with the landscape architect we were able to provide an attractive site that included surface areas for storm water detention during significant storm events.
