SDS is the civil engineer for McConnell Foundation's new campus for the Redding School of the Arts, a Kindergarten through 8th grade visual and performing arts school.
We're proud to be a part of a school that will: enhance the student's learning environment, promote good student and staff health, meet the USGB LEED platinum certification criteria, and create a powerful tool for eco-education.
The project minimizes negative impacts to the site while respecting the site's natural environment and aesthetics; it includes geothermal heating and cooling, extensive storm water quality control measures, and rainwater storage for landscape irrigation.

SDS prepared the civil and landscape plans, from concept to construction documents, for the 4.5 acre site in Susanville, California.
SDS successfully obtained LEED credits for: site selection, site development, open space, storm water management, and water efficient landscaping. Design concepts include: creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces that meet the security needs of the courts; promote sustainability; utilize landscape areas for storm water detention; treatment and infiltration prior to conveyance to a natural drainage; and provide a design that is efficient to construct and maintain.
Sharrah Dunlap Sawyer engineered the 8,363 square foot substation-council chambers project that represents the first phase of what will become a Civic Center complex.
Our work included: topographic and boundary survey, on- and off-site civil construction documents, construction staking, and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan for the project.
LEED gold certification is being sought. The complex will eventually include a new City Hall, council chambers, library, museum, and community center on the 8 acre property.
